Well, hi again! It's been a while. Unintentionally, I swear! But if you now have Green Day's "When I Come Around" stuck in your head, you're welcome. We're probably about the same age.
Yeah, life's been a little busy lately. Work mostly, helping the wife and kids get across the school year's finish line and into Summer.
In just the past week or so, I feel like I am finally coming into the idea and the full acceptance of the idea that I can be a surfer regardless of what I use to ride the surf. It's not so much thinking about it as an ideal and then quietly chiding myself for not focusing just on traditional stand up surfing, but that inner voice going "Yeah, man! Look at how engaged you are with the wave when bodyboarding! I could actually get barrelled!" or "Hmm, you know, kneeboarding could be fun. I can definitely get to my knees easily enough."
And just in the past few days the idea of kneeboarding has been genuinely exciting! Like, I've been seeking out videos and trying to learn as much as I can about kneeboards (problematically, web searches often give me more lake-based results than ocean-going ones).
Of course, it's a smaller crowd who ride on their knees, so finding a used board or something would be tough. I did find one in a town I know really well and it's mighty tempting to just get it. I guess we'll see. I suppose I could also get a used shorty soft top board and treat it the same was as a kneeboard (though it's going to be narrower regardless).
So, yeah, that's where my brain's been at lately. I'm itching to get in the water and I'm afraid it won't happen for International Surfing Day tomorrow.
But if you're able to, go do it! Catch a wave for me.
