The modern surf shop has, in some cases, gone a little bougie. Lines are too clean and modern. There are more racks of shirts than wetsuits. There are fewer wax options.
Well, I was stoked to be walking down Ocean Avenue in Cayucos, CA last week with friends as we passed the Cayucos Surfbank which had just opened when the smell hit my nostrils. It was amazing! It was that hit, that rush.
No joke, I literally turned around, poked my head in the door (because our group had a destination) and told the guy behind the counter that this place had the perfect surf shop smell. He was pleased to hear that.
Thankfully, our friends have already suggested going back to Cayucos this summer.
