Let's Go Surfing Now! - A Follow-Up

With respect to my last post, a follower reached out and commented that much of the localism behavior today is focused more on safety of those in the water.

And I quite agree with that statement. Especially since the pandemic in 2020, really self-centered bonehead behavior has been on the rise. In the water, certainly, as more and more people took that pandemic period to learn to surf (often times on their own, without the guidance that a proper surf school provides).

And perhaps that whole period just led to a lot of self-centered thinking. For a while, it kinda felt like the world was ending (or at least radically changing) and that kind of lashing out was likely a reaction to that, the restrictions (no matter how much we may understand and follow them) and limitations placed on society.

Unfortunately, I still see that kind of behavior on the roads ever single day I commute to the office. It's maddening to see people think that something as simple as road safety doesn't apply to them (and the two mutil-car accidents that have gummed up my two most recent drives to work are a sign of that).

Look folks, whether it's on the road or in the water or even in line at the grocery store...it doesn't take much to pause, take a breath, maybe have a moment of humility, and remember we're all just trying to get through our days.

Spread some aloha.
